Sandi Gordon was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease when she was in her 20s, and pregnant with her fourth child. Gordon is one of the ten percent of Parkinson’s patients under the age of forty.

The group is getting ready for an international barbershop competition in which they are favored to win.

LOUIS Producer Anne-Marie Berger speaks with St. Louis area veterans of the Battle of the Bulge, Germany’s surprise Ardennes offensive in December 1944 calculated to break the Allied line in half that left 19000 Americans dead. Berger first met members of group at a booth they set up at a Memorial Day celebration in Kimmswick, Missouri. She made arrangements to attend one of their monthly meetings at the Elks Club in Afton. The group comprises more than 300 survivors of that conflict. So many men showed up to tell their stories on camera that organizers gave out numbers. In her story, Berger chose 12 of the most compelling tales. “Everybody wanted to talk, and every story is different, even though it’s based on the ’same’ experience,” says Berger. “All of the veterans are still very emotional about that battle.”

Despite great success in the 1950s and 60s, the airline was bought out by TWA in 1986. The Silver Swallows, as they are known, reunite every year to commemorate the airline and discuss the special camaraderie and service that Ozark had to offer.

Today, two vintage streetcars are on display—one at the Missouri History Museum in Forest Park and the other in the University City loop. A group of people wants to bring them back to St. Louis to boost tourism and city development, as well as offer an alternate means of transportation.
